Naryn, Kyrgyzstan
Naryn is the capital of Naryn Oblast in Kyrgyzstan, located on the banks of the Naryn River in the Tien Shan Mountains in the center of the country, about 350 kilometers from the capital city of Bishkek. The city, which is over 2,000 meters above sea level, is an important transportation hub connecting Kyrgyzstan with China and is close to the Turgat Border Crossing. Known for its magnificent natural beauty, Naryn is surrounded by mountains, river valleys and grasslands and is a popular destination for trekking, horseback riding and eco-tourism. The local economy is based on animal husbandry, agriculture and trade, and the inhabitants, mostly ethnic Kyrgyz, retain a traditional nomadic culture. The city's facilities are relatively simple but offer basic services, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the wilderness of the Tien Shan and experiencing Central Asian culture.
