Epena, Congo-Brazzaville: a coastal town on the banks of the Black River
Located in the southwestern part of the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) and bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Epena is one of the most important towns in the province of Littoral. Located near the mouth of the Black River (Nyali River), it has a hot and humid climate, tropical rainforests and coastal plains, and a diverse ecological environment. The local economy is based on fishing and agriculture, with coastal fisheries providing the main source of protein for residents, and cassava and banana crops grown in the surrounding area. As part of the French-speaking world, Epena retains a blend of African traditions and French culture, with residents communicating in Lingala and French.
