Yunnan Shilin: World Natural Heritage and Karst Wonders
Yunnan Stone Forest, located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County of Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is one of the first batch of China's World Natural Heritage Sites and a national 5A-level tourist attraction, famous for its karst landscape with "majestic, strange, dangerous, beautiful and secluded", which is known as "the first wonder in the world". There are typical karst landscapes such as stone buds, dissolving grooves, peak forests and caves, formed 270 million years ago, with strange stones in a thousand shapes and colors, among which the "Ashima" stone peak has become a cultural symbol of Yunnan. Stone Forest is not only a natural museum for geological research, but also a settlement of the Yi Sani people, where the rich ethnic customs and natural scenery are intertwined, and every year during the Torch Festival, songs and dances attract tourists from all over the world to come and explore the mysteries of this "stone forest".
