Roncofreddo is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Foley-Cesena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located in the hilly northern foothills of the Apennines, about 20 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. This typical medieval hill town is about 300 meters above sea level and is known for its well-preserved historic center, castle ruins and olive oil agriculture.
The history of Loncofredo dates back to the 11th century, and the ruins of the castle of the Malpino family still stand on the top of the hill. The old town's stone streets are lined with red brick buildings, arched doorways and the church of San Lorenzo. An annual olive oil festival, truffle market and medieval-themed celebrations are held in the area, and traditional ceramic handicrafts are also featured.
The economy is based on agriculture, with olives, grapes and cereals, and is surrounded by family-owned wineries and farms. Visitors can ride along the "Wine and Taste Route", visit the 13th century castle watchtower or take a day trip to the nearby Republic of San Marino. The town is a popular vacation destination in the Romagna region for its peaceful rural atmosphere.
