Located in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bihac is the capital city of the Una-Sana Canton, situated on the scenic banks of the Una River, about 30 kilometers from the Croatian border. As one of the important cultural and economic centers of BiH, Bihac is known for its rich historical monuments and natural landscapes.
Bihac has a history of more than 600 years, and the architectural style of the Ottoman period has profoundly influenced the city's appearance. The iconic Bihac Castle, built in 1260, bears witness to the splendor of the medieval Bosnian kingdom. The Old Town retains the 16th-century Feser Pasha Mosque and traditional Turkish baths, which demonstrate the multicultural character of the city.
Una National Park is Bihac's most famous natural treasure, listed on the UNESCO Heritage Tentative List for its emerald-colored Una River waterfalls and karstic landscapes. Visitors can experience outdoor activities such as rafting and bird-watching, and the surrounding area, with its virgin forests and cave systems, is known as one of the "last wild rivers of Europe".
The city's economy is based on wood processing, textiles and tourism, and the Una International Rapids Race is held every summer and attracts many tourists. The region retains a unique tradition of coffee culture, with Balkan cuisine and influences from the Austrian Empire, resulting in a relaxed pace of life.
