Szigetvár, Hungary: A Southern Jewel of History and Nature
Szigetvár, located in the southern part of Hungary in the province of Baranja, near the border with Croatia, is a small city with a rich history and stunning natural beauty. The city is best known for the Battle of Szigetvár in 1566, in which the Ottoman Emperor Suleiman the Magnificent died during the siege, and which ended in Hungary's defeat but gained valuable time for Europe's defense, and remains an important symbol in Hungarian national memory.
