Yerevan: Millennium Capital of Armenia and Pearl of the Caucasus
Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia, is located at the foot of Mount Ararat on the banks of the Yarara River. It is one of the oldest cities in the Caucasus, founded in 782 BC, and is regarded as "the oldest capital in the world". As the political, economic and cultural center of Armenia, Yerevan is a blend of ancient history and modernity: the remains of Yerevan Castle and the Blue Mosque in the Old Town speak of the vicissitudes of a thousand years, while the spacious boulevards and modern art venues show the vitality of the city.
