The county is characterized by Lisu culture, multi-ethnic settlement, rich biodiversity and unique folk traditions. The Lancang River runs through the whole territory of the county, and the difference in altitude creates a magnificent landscape of snow-capped mountains, canyons and primitive forests.
Vixi is known as the "home of orchids" and the "habitat of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys", and the Tacheng Yunnan snub-nosed monkey national park is an important ecological protection zone. The local area has preserved intangible cultural heritage such as Lisu syllabic script, Ashaku Mushu songs and dances, and folk activities such as Lisu Koushi Festival and Knife Pole Festival are full of ethnic characteristics. The economy is based on agriculture and eco-tourism, and the Chinese herbal medicine planting and honey industries are quite large-scale.
The main attractions include Tongle Lisu Walled City, Dharma Ancestor's Cave and Samagong Nature Reserve. The county town of Baohe is 2,320 meters above sea level, with a warm and cool climate, and the best time to travel is spring and fall. The transportation mainly relies on highway, about 3 hours drive from Shangri-La city, which is an important node of the tourism loop in northwest Yunnan.
