Sunamganj: A Natural Jewel of Bangladesh's Wetland Land
Sunamganj, a historic city in the Sylhet district of Bangladesh, is located in the northeast of the country, close to the Indian state of Meghalaya, and is known for its unique wetland ecosystems and its reputation as the "City of Lakes". Here Harpurka Lake (Haor) dotted, is one of the largest seasonal wetlands in South Asia, every year, the onset of the rainy season, the lake and the surrounding farmland into one, forming a spectacular "water world", attracting a large number of migratory birds inhabiting, but also one of the most important rice-producing areas in Bangladesh.
