Pretoria is the administrative capital of South Africa, located in the northeast of Gauteng Province, at an altitude of about 1,332 meters above sea level, with a pleasant climate, known as the "Garden City". As the political center of South Africa, it is home to central government agencies, foreign embassies, and the Union Buildings, an important historical landmark that blends British colonial and African styles. The city's name derives from the South African pioneer Pretorius, which became the capital of the Transvaal Republic at the end of the 19th century and later continued as the administrative center of South Africa. The Tswana word "Tshwane", meaning "our place", reflects the multiculturalism of the city. Pretoria is home to the University of Pretoria and other institutions of learning, and its economy is dominated by the service, government and technology industries.
