Ordos is located in the southwestern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, neighboring Jin, Shaanxi and Ningxia provinces, which is the phonetic translation of "Palace Tent Group" in Mongolian. The city has a total area of 87,000 square kilometers, integrating the vast Ordos Plateau, Mao Wusu Sandland and grassland landscape. As an important national energy base, Ordos accounts for one-sixth of the country's coal reserves and one-third of the country's natural gas reserves, and is known as the core hub of "China's Energy Corridor".
Ordos is one of the regions with the most complete preservation of traditional Mongolian culture, and the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan is the world's most famous Mongolian sacrificial shrine. The annual Naadam Convention focuses on horse racing, archery, pugilism and other national sports. The city has made remarkable achievements in ecological construction, with the Kubuqi Desert governance model becoming a global model for desertification prevention and control, and the greening coverage rate of the urban area exceeding 40%, which has won the title of "National Forest City".
Relying on energy advantages, Ordos has formed four pillar industries, namely, coal, electric power, chemical industry and cashmere products, among which Ordos cashmere sweater production accounts for one-third of the country and one-fourth of the world. As the first 4A-level tourist attraction named after the core area of the city, Kangbashi New District has become a Netflix hotspot with its modern urban planning architecture and characteristic Mongolian cultural square. 2022 GDP per capita exceeds 250,000 yuan, ranking among the top in the country.
