Guangdong Southern District is not a separate country or administrative region, but usually refers to the southern part of Guangdong Province in China, covering the Pearl River Delta and the coastal cities in western Guangdong. The region has a well-developed economy and convenient transportation, and is an important part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Major cities include Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan and Dongguan, with manufacturing, technology and foreign trade as the pillar industries. The climate is subtropical monsoon, the language is predominantly Cantonese, and the culture combines traditional Lingnan characteristics with modern internationalization. Tourism resources are abundant, such as the Guangzhou Tower, Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town, Zhuhai Changlong and other well-known attractions.
Guangdong South is one of the most economically active regions in China, with a total GDP that is among the highest in the country. Shenzhen, as a technology center, is home to globally renowned companies such as Huawei and Tencent; Guangzhou is a hub for commerce and transportation, with the Canton Fair having a significant impact; and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) City Belt is known for its industries such as electronic information and home appliance manufacturing. At the same time, the region is densely populated with ports (e.g., Shenzhen Port and Guangzhou Port) and accounts for a significant share of the country's foreign trade imports and exports.
Adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, Guangdong's southern region has a culture that blends Cantonese, Hakka and maritime characteristics. Traditions such as Lingnan architecture, Cantonese opera and morning tea remain intact, while being significantly influenced by foreign cultures. Geographically, the area is predominantly plain and hilly, with the Pearl River running through it. The climate is warm and humid, making it suitable for tourism throughout the year. Visitors are recommended to experience the cuisine (e.g. barbecue, dim sum), visit historic districts (e.g. Ancestral Temple of Foshan) or explore the modern urban landscape.
