Mayumba is an important port city in the Gabonese Republic, located on the Atlantic coast in the western part of the country, and is the capital of Ntang Province. As the third largest city in Gabon, Mayumba is known for its deep-water harbor and fishing industry, and is one of the major maritime hubs in the West African region.
Located near the equator, Mayumba has a tropical rainforest climate that is hot and humid all year round. The economy is based on port logistics, timber export and fishing, with the largest fishing fleet in Gabon. In recent years, oil exploration and tourism have gradually developed, and the surrounding rainforest is rich in ecological resources.
The city has a population of about 80,000, with a predominance of Fang and other aboriginal people, preserving the culture of traditional fishing villages. The port of Mayumba can berth 10,000-ton freighters, and is connected to the capital Libreville through the N1 highway. There is a regional airport in the city, and the transportation network is well covered.
Visitors can explore the pristine rainforests of Lope National Park, the black sand beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and experience traditional canoe fishing. The rainy season (October-May) is ideal for watching migrating whales, while the dry season is ideal for beach activities and rainforest adventures.
