Lenoir is a city in Caldwell County, in the western part of the U.S. state of North Carolina, located in the foothills region of the Appalachian Mountains, about 100 kilometers from the city of Charlotte. Named after early settler William Lenoir, the city was founded in 1841 and has a population of about 18,000 people. Historically known as the "Furniture Capital" for its furniture manufacturing industry, Lenoir's economy has diversified in recent years to include healthcare, retail and light industry. The city is surrounded by natural beauty and is close to the famous Brown Mountain and Wilson Creek, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing.
