Cúcuta is the capital of the department of Norte de Santander in northeastern Colombia, on the border with Venezuela, and is an important trade hub and transportation gateway between the two countries. Founded in 1733, the city has a rich colonial history, with Spanish-style buildings and churches in the old town. As an economic center, Cúcuta focuses on agriculture, animal husbandry and border trade, while the surrounding area is rich in coffee, cacao and tobacco, and has a vibrant commercial activity. The climate is warm and dry, with an average annual temperature of about 26°C. It is the main land route from Colombia to the Caribbean. Multiple cultures mingle here, showcasing traditional Colombian flavors, but also presenting a unique international vibrancy due to the border location, attracting tourists and businessmen.
